NESPOLO and ALBISOLA Fuoco Ritrovato (Rediscovered Fire)

From May 30 to September 6, 2026, the MuDA Exhibition Center in Albissola Marina and the Ceramic Museum of Savona will host Nespolo and Albisola. Fuoco ritrovato (Rediscovered Fire), a major exhibition dedicated to the recent ceramic production of Ugo Nespolo, curated by Riccardo Zelatore. Promoted by the Municipality of Albissola Marinaand the Fondazione Museo della Ceramica di Savona ETS, the exhibition features over thirty previously unseen sculptures created at the historic Ceramiche Pierluca manufactory.

The exhibition stems from a renewed dialogue between the Turin-born artist and the Albisola ceramic tradition—a bond rooted in the 1960s that now translates into a new creative season. The title Fuoco ritrovato evokes this very energy: on one hand, the physical fire of ceramics and firing; on the other, an artistic exploration that continues to reinvent itself through the medium.

The artworks bear witness to Nespolo’s ability to transform his visual language—characterized by vibrant colors, geometric patterns, dynamism, and irony—into three-dimensional forms. Signs become objects, compositions expand into space, and ceramics become a ground for experimentation between contemporary art and artisanal expertise.

This new cycle of works also reveals references to Futurism, a movement that found some of its most innovative expressions right in Albisola, through the convergence of poetry, painting, architecture, and ceramics. Nespolo reinterprets this dialogue with his personal style, keeping alive the capacity of ceramics to narrate the present through ever-evolving forms.

An Exhibition Itinerary Between Albissola and Savona

The exhibition unfolds across two venues, creating an itinerary that connects symbolic landmarks of Ligurian ceramic culture.

• The MuDA Exhibition Center houses the main core of the exhibition: freestanding sculptures, visual poetry panels, and sgraffito plates engage with the new display layout designed by the studio Gianluca Peluffo & Partners. The venue is located just a short walk from both the manufactory where the works were created and the famous Lungomare degli Artisti (Artists’ Promenade), a landmark of Albisola’s 20th-century artistic golden age.
• The Ceramic Museum of Savona places Nespolo’s works in dialogue with its permanent historical collections. The contemporary sculptures are juxtaposed with Renaissance and Baroque majolica, creating a juxtaposition between past and present that highlights the continuity of the local manufacturing tradition and the enduring synergy between artists and artisans.
